I cannot see a way that these can be made without chemical processing. Of course I am just guessing, but you think of the way that such things as decaf coffee and tea are made, and it would seem to me to be similar.
I would think that organic is a rather high hope for these products, ultimately. But anything is better than the very sick alternative.
Organic products would not be able to use chemical processing or they would not be organic very much. I’m not aware of any organic low phe flours and such, but it could be possible some day. Part of the problem with low protein foods is they aren’t that way normally so you have to assume some level of processing has been done.
Any processed food has chemicals added to them, specifically preservatives that extend the shelf life of these products. However, the FDA is strict about its use, but there can still be some lapses.
If you are wanting to go with organic or natural foods or treatments, I would suggest checking out naturopathic or organic websites. If you have a naturopathic doctor in your area it would be worth it to consult with them.
When trying to cook phe free or as low as possible their are two really good alternatives to flour. One is wheat starch and the other is cake flour. Cake flour contains a lot less phe. You can mix either one with Metamucil to raise fiber content.
How are the flours and bread mixes processed? are there chemical additives, and can I get it organically grown? We’re ready to move into the realm of grains, but I don’t want a bunch of extra chemicals if I can avoid it.
